Dear Westboro “Baptist Church,”
Your favorite verse is Lev 20:23: “And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them.”
But check out what else Leviticus says: 19:18 says “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD,”
and 19:34 says “You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.”
There are lots, lots more references to love in the Bible. Seems like love is important to God, especially when he follows up each verse about loving thy neighbor with “I am the LORD.”
I don’t know how you can do what you do. Yes, there are lots of verses about detesting and loathing sin, and how God is a vengeful God. And He is, but the love and the gift of Christ were enough to save us and our belief is enough for Him to forgive and forget. It should be more than enough for you hatemongers to realize how wrong you are.
Please go back to Kansas (not that they want you there) and quit calling yourselves “Baptist” or a “Church.”
I enjoy listening to Seether, Justin Moore, and Kanye just as much as the next adult male. I like listening to tough guy music. However, I’ve come to realize over the past few years that I have a soft spot in my heart for girly stuff like The Band Perry and Taylor Swift.
There, I said it. I like Taylor Swift.
I think that as I get older, the more I can envision the cute little wife and kids package presented in songs like The Band Perry’s “All Your Life,” Swift’s “Mine,” or “God Gave Me You ” by Dave Barnes. The more I hear songs like these, the more I realize it’s something I want.
I could attribute this enjoyment of girly romantic music as just an effect of such a wide musical taste. It’s true, I do enjoy everything from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Jay-Z to Ryan Bingham to Dara Maclean to Breaking Benjamin. But who would I be kidding? I mean, I’m not in the high school stage of listening to every sappy girly song my girlfriend shares with me and liking it (or pretending to) or anything, but I won’t deny that there are a few chick songs I listen to and contemplate the future as I listen. I think there are a lot of guys out there that secretly think the same way I do on this.
Excerpt: “Remember last week, when the world was pulling its hair out in the hour after Tebow had stunned the Pittsburgh Steelers with an 80-yard OT touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas in the playoffs? And Twitter was exploding with 9,420 tweets about Tebow per second? When an ESPN poll was naming him the most popular athlete in America?
Tebow was spending that hour talking to 16-year-old Bailey Knaub about her 73 surgeries so far and what TV shows she likes.”
